THAMES
We have finished the schematic design for a new house in this Laurel Canyon neighborhood. It has nice light and expansive views to the northwest.
One goal of this house is to merge with the existing topographical conditions at the site.
The east has morning light which washes over this canyon early in the day. The house should open to the east and bring in the warm light into the house.
This is done conceptually in two ways: 1. Open the back of the house with sliding doors and private decks to connect each room to the canyon. 2. The vertical stair which connects all three floors will be made of glass and transfer the daylight throughout the house, evenly, and naturally.
To merge the house with the site, we will employ one retaining wall which will fold at the corner of the house and extend south to the front entry of the house and west, to create the driveway motor entrance.
Much more to come as we proceed.

SITE IMAGE
This is the view looking up into the canyon facing east. In the morning the sun comes over this hill and washes the canyon in natural light.

CONCEPT MODEL
The ultimate goal of this project is the merge with the landscape of the site. This model is intended to show the connection between the slope and the lines of the canyon in relation to the lines of the house. As the canyon forms a natural "V" shape, so does the shape of the house.

SOUTH ELEVATION
This flat elevation shows the entry to the house. As the house folds at the southwest corner, it reveals the interior of the house to the natural daylight to the south.

WEST ELEVATION (STREET VIEW)
This image shows the view from the street with a large open glass foyer with a double height entry on the south side of the house.

EAST ELEVATION
This is the back of the house with a large opening for the staircase and a long balcony. The roofline folds on the east side of the house in four places and drains the roof to a large planter on the north side of the house for filtration.

NORTH ELEVATION
The slope at the north side of the property will be held in place with a large retaining wall at the line of the natural grade. The height of the house is minimal on the side. The two windows are for natural light into the master bedroom which will have a vaulted ceiling.
