We renovated this backyard in Los Feliz. Drought tolerant landscaping and native plant materials were used in conjunction with stone filled benches, decomposed granite and natural flagstone.
We renovated this backyard in Los Feliz. Drought tolerant landscaping and native plant materials were used in conjunction with stone filled benches, decomposed granite and natural flagstone.
VARIABLE SURFACES
In this project we wanted to vary the ground surfaces as much as possible to allow for different activites to occur in each space. Decomposed granite, grass turf, flagstone with native grasses.
ROOF VIEW
This image shows more of the whole space, upper left if for the barbeque with the adjacent dining area to the right side. One level down is a small grass area to the left and a long bench to the right for movie viewing.
LANDSCAPE PLAN
Shows the various materials for the project, native grasses, succulents and flagstone mostly, with two rock filled benches.
SITTING AREA
We used flagstone with a very durable grass between the slabs. The large trees were maintained.
VARIATION IN SPACES
This image shows two of the different areas-the raised dining area and the lower bench area for viewing movies at night which are projected on to the back of the house. We wanted to use this terraced area as a mini amphitheater.
GABION BENCH
We love this bench. It is a stone filled bench with a wood top. Filled with smooth river rocks, it also has a solid area in front of the beck for your feet from thick timbers buried in the decomposed granite.
FENCE ELEVATION
To create privacy at the low wall to the neighbor, we designed a stepping fence with an open area above.
RIVER ROCK
These are a few of the stones we used for the benches and landscape borders.
